PROTEST

The participants of the All-Polish Conference "„Internet i Poland" express their categorical protest against the changes in charges for Internet traffic in Poland planned by NASK. Charging the Internet users for communication at both ends can be compared only to possible plans of Polish Post Office to charge people for letters they receive or to charge Polish Telecommunication clients for incoming calls.

The proposed prices are also inacceptable, especially that, according to official statements, half of NASK sources is given by the Polish Telecommunication, what gives this matter all signs of the monopolists' plot.

The new price list will limit the possibility of promoting Poland in the World and will separate Poland from the international information infrastructure. It will also lead to gradual fragmentation of Polish Internet and to its inevitable criminalization (e.g. sabotage against the competitors, breaking in accounts in order to avoid charges). In will result in civilization retreat and gradual extermination of Internet in Poland.

The protest was signed by Internet service providers in Poland (ATM, Bank Information Center, Poland OnLine, TERNET, SPRINT, RASCO), representatives of Gazeta Wyborcza daily News and Academic Radio Cracow, companies OPTIMUS Gamex, TCH, DECSoft, Donajski's Digital Gallery, univesities in Cracow and Warsaw and secondary schools, participating in the program "Internet for Schools".
